On Friday, Jan. 23, we honored Project Angel Food Trustee John Baackes’ 80th birthday by dedicating a new refrigerated delivery van in his name — just the 54th van in our 37-year history.

Surrounded by his husband, his four daughters, their partners, beautiful grandchildren, and close friends, the day reflected both John’s devotion to family and a lifetime of service, including serving as CEO of L.A. Care Health Plan. Project Angel Food CEO Richard Ayoub told the story: "When one of our vans was stolen from our temporary kitchen last year, John immediately stepped forward to fund a replacement so our clients would never miss a meal. That’s just who he is."
