Project Angel Food has moved to temporary spaces to make room for construction, as we double the size of our Vine Street facilities to triple our capacity to prepare and deliver meals to meet the needs of critically ill Angelenos, a population that is growing exponentially.

Background

During COVID, Project Angel Food doubled the number of people we served and meals we produced. Seeing the growing demand, we realized our kitchen capacity would soon be insufficient to meet it. Therefore, we launched a $51.5 million “Rise to the Challenge” campaign to renovate our building at 922 Vine St. and construct a new facility at 960 Vine St., forming the two-building, 30,000 square foot The Chuck Lorre Family Foundation Campus.

The project will unfold in two phases. Phase one will renovate the kitchen, dispatch, and storage areas by early 2026. Phase two will construct the new building as funding allows. This expansion will double our space and triple meal production, enhance client services with a demonstration kitchen, and establish a Research and Policy Institute to influence health and nutrition policies. Additionally, we will create spaces to engage volunteers and foster community support.

The new state-of-the-art kitchen will improve working conditions and productivity for staff and volunteers, allowing us to serve more critically ill people effectively. In short, we will serve more seriously ill people better. During construction, we have secured two temporary facilities to ensure uninterrupted meal service.
