Project Angel Food's transformative expansion to meet the urgent need for medically tailored meals in Los Angeles County is now underway. This ambitious project involves renovating our current building at 922 Vine St. and constructing a new facility at 960 Vine St., forming The Chuck Lorre Family Foundation Campus. The $51.5 million investment will be completed in two phases: the renovation of the existing building, which will include meal production and packing facilities, by early 2026, and the completion of the new building the following year.
The expansion is driven by four key pillars:
Architect John Egan's design for the new campus emphasizes sustainability and innovation. The South Campus expands the kitchen to encompass the entire first floor, with advanced food storage and packing facilities on the second floor. This will enable us to produce and deliver over 4.5 million meals annually. The North Campus will include office flex spaces, wellness areas, a Founders Room for community cooking demonstrations, and expansive glass windows to create a welcoming atmosphere.
During construction, Project Angel Food’s kitchen has moved to a large temporary facility at Amped Kitchens in Lincoln Heights. Executive offices have relocated to 870 Vine Street, allowing CEO Richard Ayoub to monitor construction closely. Despite these changes, our dedicated team continues to prepare, pack, and deliver 1.5 million meals annually to more than 2,700 individuals living with critical illnesses daily.
“The Rise to the Challenge campaign is a bold effort to serve thousands more in need and prepare for future growth,” says Ayoub. “Our current kitchen was designed for 800,000 meals per year, but we are now producing 1.5 million annually. The urgency to expand is clear. Thanks to incredible community support, our new campus will be a beacon of hope, healing, and humanity.”
While 87% of the funding has been secured, The Rise to the Challenge Campaign is actively seeking partners in philanthropy to complete the project.
