Project Angel Food must begin construction this summer on the Community Outreach Center, the second building of The Chuck Lorre Family Foundation Campus. This is a moment of tremendous promise — and real urgency. As federal safety nets begin to fray, food costs rise, health inequities deepen, and more older adults and people living with serious illness turn to us for help, the demand for our medically tailored meals and services continues to grow.
The opening of our new kitchen and operations center marked a major milestone, but it is only half of the vision. The Community Outreach Center will expand Client Services, Nutrition Services, Volunteer Services, and Administration, while also creating space for client nutrition education and a research and policy institute dedicated to strengthening the evidence for Food Is Medicine.
At our groundbreaking, Chuck Lorre challenged the community with a remarkable commitment: The Chuck Lorre Family Foundation would match every gift dollar for dollar, up to $1.15 million. In just six weeks, donors rose to the occasion and met the full challenge. That extraordinary momentum brought us closer than ever. Today, we have secured pledges that bring us to $51 million of our $51.5 million goal — 99% of the way there.
But to begin construction this summer, what matters most right now is not only what has been promised, but what has been received. With rising construction costs and growing need, this is the moment to keep that momentum going. We are 99% of the way there in pledges. Help us raise the funds in hand we need now to begin construction this summer and bring this vision to life.
